Happy New Year friends! It’s the first day of the new year and I want to start it off with a thought on mindset. As we enter this new year it is important to establish a mindset that will help us succeed at whatever it is, we set out to do. What does it really mean to have mindset? Well, having a mindset is an established attitude about something you want to do. But having a mindset is not enough, there needs to be more. The more is a combination of things. We hear and use the word mindset often to talk about how focused we are about producing something, but with this blog I want to focus you in the direction of what makes having a mindset a such a powerful thing. We must move beyond just talking the talk, to including the walk.
Having a mindset begins with creating space mentally. All great achievements begin in the mind. Getting your thoughts in order is major and not always an easy task. You might be surprised at how well we train our brains over time to think a certain way, positive and not so positive. The challenge is to sort your thoughts like you sort laundry, keep the positive ones that encourage and move you forward. Then get rid of the ones that set you back and offer no benefit for achieving success. Having the mindset to succeed requires an honest journey that may lead to taking a real look at your failures and disappointments and using them to be even better than before.
Mindset in Action
Positive thinking and an established mindset are great but, more is still needed. To make any progress means incorporating some behavior. Some people will be in the same position year after year because they are just having a mindset in words only. Just speaking the lingo with no actions to back it up will get you nowhere.
Creating a pattern of behavior that works with your mindset takes some planning. Your journey to success is going to require intentional focus and maybe some self-development along the way. Sometimes as we are busy doing, we face failures and disappointments. If you can remember that failure doesn’t have to mean you need to quit then you’ll make progress. It may hurt to know that something didn’t work, but there is something bigger than that you are reaching for. The point is to keep doing, that’s the only way to get results.
Consistency is about keeping up the momentum. This may mean assessing and evaluating your steps from time to time to be sure you’re on task for meeting your goals. Learning new skills or perfecting the ones you have may also be needed to keep you consistent. Planning each step of the way is key.
Another consideration point to consider is to be true to your own journey. Refrain from comparing yourself to someone else. Focus on your own journey by understanding your own purpose as well as your unique gifts and talents. The truth is no matter how hard you try you will never succeed at being someone else. Work to be the best version of yourself! To be some copy of someone else only proves to separate and put distance between you and your destiny. Even if we have similar goals our journeys are unique to us as individuals.
As you look ahead and plan your new year, I hope you consider doing more. New beginnings offer hope and it seems easy to be optimistic. But progress requires all the elements of mindset. Always consider the whole and have faith that you can achieve. Until the next time be blessed and continue in a mindset that yields results.
